Shannon received her ballet training from the School of Ballet Chicago and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre School. She has studied in the summers with American Ballet Theatre, The Rock School, and Exploring Ballet with Suzanne Farrell. Before dancing with Oklahoma City Ballet, Shannon performed professionally with St. Louis Ballet, Madison Ballet, and City Ballet of San Diego. Her favorite roles have been Waltz Girl in George Balanchine's Serenade, second Violin in Balanchine's Concerto Barocco and Cigarette Girl in Elizabeth Wistrich's Carmen.
